Dr. Gelgelu is an Economics professor at 海角社区 and Metropolitan State University. He holds a BSc in Statistics from Addis Ababa University, as well as an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Pune, India. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His academic interests focus primarily on monetary and international economics. Dr. Gelgelu is particularly passionate about researching the economic revitalization of East Africa, with a firm belief that integrating the region鈥檚 economies could significantly accelerate growth, improve the wellbeing of millions, and contribute positively to the global economy through enhanced participation in global supply chains.
Prior to relocating to the United States, Dr. Gelgelu served in various leadership roles at Ethiopia Adventist College, including Economics Professor, Academic Dean, and Acting President. During his tenure, he successfully led the transformation of the institution from a two-year college into a four-year degree-granting college. His leadership was instrumental in recruiting and educating hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to become entrepreneurs or serve in key roles across financial institutions, government bodies, and non-governmental organizations.
Dr. Gelgelu brings a wealth of experience in working with diverse populations and has gained valuable insights into the relationship between culture and economic development through extensive international travel. He believes that the dissemination of knowledge and skills is essential to community transformation and is deeply committed to advancing this mission.
